WEAVERCOOKE Construction History
WEAVERCOOKE was founded in 1939 at the end of the Great Depression and the start of World War II. We not only survived those turbulent times but quickly dove into commercial construction, completing over 2,000 units of housing at Fort Bragg by 1950 and providing the first homes for many soldiers returning from World War II. In the decades that followed, we expanded throughout the southeast. Our projects have included everything from airports to libraries, but the backbone of our work has always been “Habitational Contracting”: places people will call home, whether for a night or a lifetime. Throughout the growth and changes of the past 80 years, two distinct traits tie the WEAVERCOOKE of today to the company that Herman Weaver started in his garage in 1939. One is a belief that we can do things that have not been done yet, and the other is a strong sense of caring and accountability to the people we work with. Over the years, this has created an enviable position for WEAVERCOOKE. Our work with owners, architects, trade contractors and our own employees is centered on building relationships based on mutual benefit and helping one another succeed. Our curiosity and resourcefulness have led us to become experts in our field. Many of our clients choose to work exclusively with WEAVERCOOKE, and the overwhelming majority of our work comes to us on a negotiated basis. Today WEAVERCOOKE is the premiere habitational contractor in the Southeast, specializing in multi-family construction, affordable housing construction and senior living construction. We have locations in Greensboro, Asheville, Durham and Charlotte NC and continue our tradition of building dreams and enriching lives throughout the Carolinas, Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee.
