OUR FOCUS Our company was established in 1939 to provide housing where it was needed most. We accomplished that goal through a joint venture housing project that provided the first homes for thousands of veterans returning from World War II, which launched us into our commercial construction undertaking. Although we’ve worked with developers all over the Southeast we have continued to specialize in “Habitational Construction,” building places people will live either for just a night or a lifetime. The term “general contractor” is typically used to describe companies that provide construction management services, regardless of the type of building. But this term doesn’t apply to WEAVERCOOKE because we are not a “general” contractor. We are—and have been for 80 years—the Habitational Contractor  , a specialized contractor who focuses on Habitational Construction. This focus is what has given us the chance to pursue almost exclusively negotiated work. We have long-standing relationships with developers of affordable housing, continuing care retirement communities and several other habitational markets who work exclusively with WEAVERCOOKE for expansions, renovations and new developments. Their commitment to us stems from our commitment to their market, where we have learned the ins and outs of effective, quality construction. Being so focused on specific types of projects also allows us to employ innovations specific to that industry.
