THE GIVENS GERBER PARK
APARTMENTS TEAM
Givens Gerber Park Apartments combined two of our team’s greatest strengths: senior living and affordable housing. We were considerate of
the safety and comfort of residents who had moved into early phases as we worked hard to meet can’t-miss deadlines at the end of the project.
OVERVIEW
WEAVERCOOKE provided construction services for this three-phase, mixed-
income community for seniors located in Asheville, NC. Phase I, which
completed construction and is now occupied, includes 120 new one- and two-
bedroom units located in one building. The building also features a 2-story
multi-purpose room on the first floor, a barber shop, library with computer,
public kitchen, screened in porch, and public storage area for tenants.
The first phase of the project was entirely affordable units for seniors. Phase II
and III included a total of 140 units in two separate buildings. One of the
buildings provides 60 units of affordable one- and two-bedroom units, the
other provides 80 market rate units.
A multipurpose room and common area kitchen are available in both buildings.
In the market rate building, several offices are available for residents’ use, and
some of the units include porches, accent trellises, or Juliet balconies.

IMPACT
Givens Gerber Park is pioneering the next generation of affordable rental
retirement housing for those 55 years old and up. Comprised of three
buildings, Givens Gerber Park offers residents of modest incomes a
welcoming neighborhood with amenities to make retirement a little easier.
Rents are determined by the household's income with broader ranges than
typically found in traditional affordable communities.
Givens Gerber Park is located in beautiful, convenient South Asheville with
numerous shops, grocery stores, and pharmacies nearby. Givens Gerber Park
is a place to connect with friends over lunch in the on-campus café, workout
in the fitness center, or take a class. In 2019, the community now features an
onsite Blue Ridge Health primary care clinic allowing residents to see a
physician or have an urgent care visit without having to leave campus.
At Givens Gerber Park, the team members come from a variety of
backgrounds and disciplines and are joined together with one passion: to
serve Asheville’s older population. Givens Gerber Park opened the doors to
an affordable retirement lifestyle that residents could otherwise not afford.
It also provided an opportunity to many of its staff members who can now
choose to live in a retirement community where they have worked.
