This project was a renovation and expansion of a 3 story, 70,000 square foot building to a 4 story building housing a 80,000 square foot furniture showroom and 30,000 square foot of offices for Natuzzi Americas.
The new building features burnished bronze cladding, a high performance Nordissa Window System and marble, all imported from Italy. The building, shaped like an ocean liner, has a water-filled moat and a bow that overlooks a major intersection. The construction of the addition was challenging since the design called for the building to lean on one side, and the remainder of the building to be counter balanced.
Working closely with the design architect in Italy, J. Hyatt Hammond Associates and WEAVERCOOKE communicated daily via the internet and email to produce the plans.
The project was completed on time for the Spring International Home Furniture Market.
This project won the prestigious Pinnacle Award for Best Building Construction Project in North and South Carolina from the Carolinas Associated General Contractors.
